A paint drier is one of the most important ingredients in the paint formulation. Driers are widely used in paint industry for reducing drying time of the paint after application on substrate. Different kinds of paint driers follow different mechanisms and have a specific function. Apart from single driers Goldstab also offers combination driers as per the requirements of the customers for their specific needs. Driers are classified into primary driers, through driers and auxiliary driers.
Primary Driers:
These are oxidation catalysts, as their metal
soaps exhibit more than one oxidation state.
Primary driers facilitate cross-linking of the
resin and in the process hydroxyl, carbonyl and
carboxylic groups are formed.
Auxiliary Driers:
Auxiliary driers as such do not function as
driers on their own, but these molecules improve
the efficiency of other driers.
The most used metal octoates in combination are cobalt, zirconium and calcium. Cobalt works as a "primary drier", while zirconium and calcium are auxiliary driers needed to improve through-drying, hardness and stability.
